Scottish Evaluation Network (SEN)
About us
The Scottish Evaluation Network (SEN) was founded in February 2003. The need for a more local evaluation forum was suggested at UKES conference and an inaugural meeting in Glasgow confirmed that there was a high level of interest.
The purpose of SEN is to facilitate local debate and learning around topics that the members request or that are currently under debate. Communication is mainly via email, although we run three to four workshops/seminars each year. Recent topics covered have included 'Theories of Change,' 'Evaluation in Scotland: are we meeting the need?' and 'Approaches to Evaluation.' There is no fee for joining SEN, although there is a charge for any events attended (discounted for UKES members).
One of our most important functions is to enable communication across the evaluation community in Scotland, so anyone joining the mailing list can post to others. We have membership across the disciplines (e.g. health, local government, academia, independent consultants) and encourage participation from commissioners, practitioners and people who just want to learn more about evaluation.
We have a core organising group that meets regularly to debate progress and future direction. Whilst the main function (running events) is fairly evenly shared, Helen Alexander co-ordinates and chairs SEN meetings, Mark Livingston takes a lead on the SEN mailing list, and Myra Kandemiri is our link to UKES. The other members of the core group are Anita Morrison, Cathy Sharp, Steven Marwick, Bron McDonald, Ann Birch, and Lyndsay Adams.
SEN receives sponsorship from The Scottish Government and NHS Health Scotland.
