WEBINAR: Perspectives from the Evaluation industry: Academia and Consultancy

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) practice happens in a lot of different contexts, from government departments, in think tanks and charities, to consultancies. This is the first one of a series of events which will explore different sectors in the evaluation industry and the professional opportunities they offer.

We will start the series by hearing from two award-winning evaluation professionals who work in academia or consultancy. Hannes Read (City-REDI, University of Birmingham) and Niki Wood (Chemonics International) will discuss the good and the bad of doing evaluation in their sectors and identify ways to get a foot in their doors.

The webinar will start with a panel discussion followed by an audience Q&A.

This webinar will be of interest to a wide audience, and especially early career professionals who are interested in better understanding different sectors which make up the evaluation industry, and who want to find out more about potential career paths in evaluation.

Guest Speakers:

Johannes Read is a Policy and Data Analyst working at City-REDI at the University of Birmingham with a particular interest in inclusive economic development. Hannes is a UK Evaluation Society Early Career Evaluator Prize Winner for the work he has undertaken to help embed evaluation practice and an understanding of its value within the Higher Education sector.

Niki Wood is a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) specialist, and systems-thinking enthusiast, working as the MEL and Research Director in Chemonics International’s UK Division. She is an award-winning mixed-methods Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) expert, specializing in weaving together behaviour change theory, complexity science, and systems-thinking into accessible and participatory approaches for project teams.

Giovanna Voltolina (organiser/facilitator) is a MEL consultant in Itad’s Knowledge Hub and a UKES council member.

Joana Pereira (co-organiser) is a Research Analyst at Itad, in the Fragile and Conflict-Affected Settings Practice.
