The Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC)
New Remodelling Social Work Delivery Project
The Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) have announced the launch of a major project encouraging innovative social work delivery.
The Remodelling Social Work Delivery Project will test out new approaches to social work deployment so staff expertise can be used more widely, enabling better direct work with clients.
With funding available for up to 18 pilots (two per Government region) running over the next three years, CWDC intends that each pilot will free up social worker time to enable more direct work with vulnerable children and families and provide effective background support to enable this to happen. For further information, and to download a copy of the application form please visit www.cwdcouncil.org.uk/projects/socialcareindex.htm
CWDC also intends the pilots will improve the retention and recruitment of social work and social care staff, allow more early intervention work with clients, involve non-social work staff, trainees and social work students on practice learning placements and form part of integrated services and arrangements.
Outcomes will be tracked and showcased at dedicated annual national conferences which staff from each pilot will attend and contribute to. Contractors and evaluators will be appointed via separate tendering processes to support, assess and help publicise the work of the pilots.
Jane Haywood, Chief Executive of CWDC comments: “Those working in the social care field do a valuable but often highly challenging role. This project will explore new ways of working which should prove attractive to social workers and improve outcomes for service users. It should therefore help manage some of the difficulties in the sector and achieve a higher level of retention. We are delighted to be able to support the social care workforce through this innovative project, and we look forward to it fostering and promoting excellent ways of working which will make a big difference to social work and its clients.”

CWDC exists to improve the lives of children, young people, their families and carers by ensuring that all people working with them have the best possible training, qualifications, support and advice. It also helps children and young people's organisations and services to work together better so that the child is at the centre of all services.

UKES Survey
Between November 2005 to February 2006 UKES surveyed UKES members and those attending the annual conference concerning their professional development experiences and needs. The results were intended to form the basis of an action plan for work in 2006 to support professional development and a medium term strategy in this area.
Paper showing the results of the survey and actions which are now being undertaken by UKES.
